Company history
September 1988
Toho Kaiun Co. ltd. is established as a 100% subsidiary of NYK with 100 million yen in capital. The company begins operating out of its main office in Shintomi, Chuo-ku in Tokyo, begins transporting North American timber with 18 handy bulk carriers sold by the company formerly known as Sin-Tokai Un Co. ltd.
December 1988
Financial backing is received from the Industrial Bank of Japan, Limited (currently Mizuho Corporate Bank), etc., (150 million yen in new capital).
November 1993
Company headquarters is relocated to the Irifune, Chuo-ku, Tokyo.
December 2001
The company becomes a complete subsidiary of NYK.
February 2002
The company announces an integration of handy bulk carriers division, whereby the handy bulk carriers division of NYK is to be taken over.
May 2002
Main office is relocated to the Yusen Building in Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo.
October 2002
Handy bulk carriers division of NYK is integrated and the company name is changed to NYK Global Bulk Corporation (new capital of 4.15 billion yen).
